How Much Does a Skid Steer Weigh

Mini Skid Steers such as the Vermeer CTX50 can weigh in as low as 2,000 pounds or so. The weights go up from there - even in the mini category.

The Ditch Witch SK600 Mini Skid Steer weighs 2,418 pounds.

The Bobcat MT55 mini skid steer weighs in at 2,610 pounds.

Bobcat makes the lightest skid steer in the full size category, the Bobcat S70. The Bobcat S70 is their smallest skid steer at 2,795 pounds.

The New Holland LS170 weighs a lean and mean 5,540 pounds with a lift capacity of 1,765 pounds.

A JCB 270 Skid Steer has a weight of 8,680 pounds.

The John Deere 332G Skid Steer weighs 10,000 pounds.

The very popular Kubota SVL75 skid steer weighs in at 9,040 lbs and has a tipping load of 6,570 lbs.  This is the amount of weight that your skid steer can carry without tipping over.  The rated operating weight is generally between 30 and  50 percent of the tipping weight.

The median weight of full size skid steers is closer to 7,500 pounds, but larger ones like the Caterpillar 299D definitely run upwards of 11,000 lbs.  If you’re considering purchasing a skid steer, the weight of the skid steer you choose is important to think about since that will dictate how much weight you can handle doing various tasks with your skid steer.  The weight of the skid steer will influence your operating weight.

The heaviest skid steer on the market right now is the Gehl V420 weighing in at 11,665 pounds. The Gehl V420 has an operating capacity of 4,200 pounds.  The significance of this is the amount of weight you can manage while operating your skid steer and of course, bear in mind that you’ll be adding weight in the way of attachments used to accomplish various tasks.

In short, find out the weight of a given skid steer before you buy so you can calculate based on the operating weight, tipping load and rated operating capacity if this is the skid steer that can tackle the jobs you have in mind.
